Manufacturing Reality™ is a real world business simulation. Participants are members of the management team on one of 6 companies competing in a marketplace. They have complete control over all aspects of their business. They are faced with challenging situations requiring them to balance shareholder needs with profitability, cash and growth requirements. They have the ability to make important business decisions without risking real money. The challenge within the simulation is to drive shareholder value in a competitive real world situation.

 

Teams compete for 8 business years during the two day simulation.

They have to manage and control all aspects of the company including:

• The supply chain

• Inventory (incoming and finished goods)

• Sales and Marketing – including sales forecasting

• Manufacturing (Quality, Efficiency, Flexibility, Lean/Smart)

• Research and Development

• Capital Investments

• Cash Management

• Financial measurements (Balance sheet, Income statement)

• Developing and executing their strategy

• Responding to competition

 

They decide; the markets to attack; where and how to invest; products to develop; managing resources, measuring profitability. They physically and mentally connect with the simulation. Their success depends upon their ability to think strategically, adjust and adapt on the fly – kind of like the real world.

 

Every time the simulation is run, it is different because of the impact of the decisions made by each competing team. Teams must respond to the changing marketplace to achieve success.

 

Participants learn by doing vs. listening to lectures with

a stack of overhead slides.
